Hey Rube … the name that gives life to the artist Carola Bravo’s new piece which is exhibited in the 2019 edition of ArtMiami Fair during the week of Art Basel.

HEY RUBE! Is a cry for help, according to Carola Bravo, the piece is “An exploration of images and concepts made into a sculptural piece that documents the complex and complicated history of the United States. Current heartbreaking moments lived by immigrants are related to a slang phrase, most commonly used in this country by circus workers “carnies”, with origins in the middle 19th century. HEY RUBE! is a rallying call, or a cry for help, used by carnies in a fight with outsiders.

Three images that were drawn by detained migrant children, ages 9 and 10, shortly after release from U.S. Customs and Border Protection, are combined with images of circus animals, and the immigrant figure of the artist to create a sculptural metal piece showing the images behind bars. The sculptural piece is made out of reflective metal, allowing the viewers to see themselves reflected in the piece”.
